SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM: QUALITY TRIAGE /SUPPORT SERVICE FOR SCHOOLS

School Doctor Schools Partnership Program: Quality Triage /Support Service for Schools

Overview

School Doctor’s School Partnership newly launched Quality Triage/support service provides schools with rapid access to School Doctor’s experienced Paediatricians/Experts to support the early identification of children who may be neurodivergent. The service enables schools to discuss concerns, review developmental or behavioural patterns, and receive expert guidance on whether a child requires referral to specialist services, further observation, and further signposting.

This service directly supports School Doctor’s mission: Facilitating early identification and intervention for developmental and mental health disorders by bridging the gap between schools, professionals, and specialist services.

School Doctor empowers schools with high-quality clinical insight; ensuring children receive the right help at the right time.

Purpose

  • Early Identification: Help schools recognise early signs of neurodevelopmental needs (e.g., ADHD, autism, DLD, learning differences, sensory issues).
  • Appropriate Pathways: Clarify when a child meets the threshold for referral to paediatrics, CAMHS, SALT, OT, or educational psychology.
  • Reduce Delays: Avoid unnecessary referrals and ensure that children who do need specialist assessment are not overlooked or left waiting without support.
  • Consistent Quality: Provide schools with clinically informed decision-making that aligns with national guidelines and best practice.

How the Service Works

  1. School identifies a concern about a child’s development, behaviour, learning, attention, or communication.
  2. School books a triage consultation with School Doctor’s paediatrician, if they don’t find answers from accessing School Doctor’s symptom Checker Tools (https://v0-school-doctor-neuro-symptom-check.vercel.app/).
  3. Structured discussion takes place, including presenting concerns, relevant history, school observations, and contextual factors.
  4. Clinical triage outcome provided:
    • Referral recommended (Paediatrics, CAMHS, SALT, OT, EP, etc.)
    • Monitoring advised with clear guidance
    • Support signposted
    • Parent partnership guidance
  5. Written triage summary provided to the school including recommended next steps and evidence-based signposting.

Benefits for Schools

  • Access to experienced Paediatricians/Experts without long waits.
  • Increased confidence in decision-making about complex neurodevelopmental concerns.
  • Reduced inappropriate referrals, improving local pathways and saving time for SENCOs, teachers, and families.
  • Clear, actionable advice schools can implement immediately.
  • Stronger home–school–health collaboration.
  • Supports Ofsted priorities around inclusion, early help, and SEND quality assurance.

Benefits for Children & Families

  • Faster access to the right support.
  • Early intervention reduces escalation of needs.
  • Families feel reassured and informed.
  • Referrals are stronger, clearer, and more likely to be accepted by services.

Alignment with School Doctor’s Mission

This triage service strengthens School Doctor’s core aims by:

  • Improving equitable access to early identification.
  • Supporting schools to manage rising neurodiversity needs.
  • Enhancing quality, consistency, and clinical accuracy in SEND pathways.
  • Ensuring children do not “fall through the gaps” due to system pressures.

Benefits of the School Doctor Schools Partnership program

1. Free Subscription for Schools
School Doctor’s Quality Triage Service is exclusively available to schools that subscribe to the School Doctor Schools Partnership Program.

Subscription is completely free and gives schools access to our specialist support services, resources, and clinical guidance pathways.

2. Access to Paediatric/Expert Triage
Once subscribed, schools can access several exclusive resources, including book triage discussions with an experienced Paediatrician or Expert whenever they have concerns about a child’s development, behaviour, learning, or possible neurodiversity.

Each triage discussion helps the school determine whether the child:

  • requires referral to specialist services
  • would benefit from further monitoring
  • should receive additional school-based support
  • needs signposting to appropriate interventions

3. Clear Recommendations
After each triage conversation, the school receives:

  • a concise summary of the discussion
  • recommended next steps
  • signposting to evidence-based support
  • referral guidance (where appropriate)

This ensures schools can confidently make informed decisions about supporting children and liaising with families.
